Akliouche with Algeria, is it heating up?

Maghnes Akliouche and Rayan Cherki, two dual-national talents, are of interest to Algeria. But their international future still remains unclear.

Maghnes Akliouche, attacking midfielder for AS Monaco, and Rayan Cherki, rising star for Olympique Lyonnais, continue to attract the interest of the Algerian Federation. If the FAF hopes to convince them to join the Fennecs, nothing seems decided yet for these two binational talents, also linked to the French teams.

This Monday, during an intervention on the Algerian channel One , Saïd Fellak, head of communications for the FAF, discussed the progress of the discussions. “We presented our project. We don’t put pressure on the players,”
he declared, before adding: “There is some positive feedback, but we should not be fooled, nothing is official. When this is the case, we will communicate it.”

A dilemma for Akliouche and Cherki

For Akliouche, 22, as for Cherki, 21, the decision to represent Algeria or could be crucial for their career. Akliouche, author of solid performances with Monaco this season, remains a hope to follow, although he is not yet the subject of media rumors like his counterpart.

Cherki hasn't decided anything yet.

For his part, Cherki, despite interesting individual performances, plays in a Lyon team in difficulty. The two players must now choose between joining a promising sporting project in Algeria or trying to establish themselves in the French team, where the competition is tough.

Next meeting in March

While the FAF continues its work of persuasion, the next international deadlines, scheduled for March 2025, could allow us to see things more clearly. For the moment, neither Akliouche nor Cherki have officially commented on their choice.

Between personal ambitions and selection projects, the future of these two young talents remains a subject of speculation, both in Algeria and in France.
