A little-noticed drop in prices on supermarket shelves in Martinique

It is January 2, 2025 and it is therefore today that supermarket customers were able to notice the drop of 7 to 8% in the prices of some 6,000 food and hygiene products.

This drop in prices is partial, pending the implementation of the State's commitments, namely the elimination of VAT on 54 families of consumer products, the neutralization of delivery costs, the negotiation of the application “export” tariffs.

Customer feelings

But what about the feelings of customers in store this Thursday, January 2? Morgane Garnier visited the shelves of two brands in Fort-de- and Lamentin this morning.

Among those surveyed, a majority indicated that they did not see a difference, as these clients :

I wait to see when I get to the checkout, but I don't see much change.

In terms of vegetables and hygiene products for women, I have not noticed a drop in price. At checkout, I didn't see any difference.

Another customerhas clearly noticed the double labeling of prices, before and after the reduction. And for him, that's a very good thing. But that's not enough in his eyes.

On certain products like pasta, we have the impression that there is a very slight drop. But, for others, like fresh products, we have the impression that it is stagnating or better yet that it is increasing. This may be a good start, but it should continue.

Anyway, a customer says he has seen a difference and thinks it will significantly reduce his shopping cart bill.

I have taken a lot of products where there was the price in black and the price in red. Each time it was 10, 15, 20… cents less. Multiplied by 10, by 20, it goes up very quickly. There are products that I took because I thought the price was decent.

Pour this other customerthis drop in prices bodes something concrete for all people who have somewhat tight budgets.

It's positive and they kept their word. And I think we really need it for this year 2025.
