While ASSE hopes to maintain its presence in Ligue 1, midfielder Benjamin Bouchouari is establishing himself as the weeks go by. The Moroccan spoke about his season for Transfermarkt.
Discovery of Ligue 1
Arriving from Roda JC in August 2022, Benjamin Bouchouari had never played in Ligue 1 before the Greens returned to their rightful place. Since then, the Saint-Etienne player has found his place in the Saint-Etienne midfield.
Benjamin Bouchouari: “Many players in the team are discovering Ligue 1. It's a championship that we have to get to know. It's a totally different team compared to last year. We're starting to gain strength. The more we will play matches, the more experience we will gain, and that will inevitably help us to be more consistent and to put in good performances.
(…) Technically, Ligue 1 players are superior, and they are smarter too. The players understand each other better or more, it goes quickly, it's clean, and it often ends with a goal, or a shot on target.”
The ASSE player earns his place
Unwanted this summer, Benjamin Bouchouari was even pushed towards the exit. But the midfielder has recently established himself in the ASSE midfield.
Benjamin Bouchouari: “I've improved defensively. I'm trying a lot more. Before, I was already thinking about possession, when we hadn't even won the ball yet. Now, I'm thinking about the defensive aspect first . It makes me a more complete player. I understood that I had to change that to play. Now I have to improve in the last gesture.
“My size? An advantage”
The pocket midfielder stands out for his height (1m65). Technically comfortable, Benjamin Bouchouari is effective in Saint-Etienne's transition game.
Benjamin Bouchouari : “My size? I think it's an advantage, because the opponents are bigger. They look for a duel. I'm quick, so it's easier to avoid them and harder for them to catch me .”
