Mercato: Sampaoli inquires about a replacement for PSG

Arriving on the bench on November 12, Jorge Sampaoli hopes to recruit several players in the winter transfer window and Stade Rennais has notably inquired about a replacement for PSG.

Former OM coach, the volcanic Jorge Sampaoli set down his bags in Rennes on November 12 with the aim of shaking up a sleeping club currently 12th in Ligue 1 after 15 days. For the moment, the Argentinian’s record is mixed (two victories and two defeats), but he is counting on the winter transfer window to strengthen his team and achieve a good second half of the season.

If Sampaoli trusts Steve Mandanda for the moment, whom he had quickly relegated to the bench upon his arrival at OM in 2021, the Argentine coach would obviously not be against the recruitment of a new goalkeeper in January, especially since the experienced 39-year-old goalkeeper is coming to the end of his contract next June.

Rennes inquired about Arnau Tenas

And according to L’Equipe, PSG has notably inquired about Arnau Tenas, PSG’s third goalkeeper, who has still not played a single match this season. The 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper is renowned for the quality of his kicking game and it is not surprising that Sampaoli, who likes his goalkeeper to be the first restarter of his team, is interested in him.

For the moment, however, there has only been a simple collection of information from Rennes according to L’Equipe and nothing is far advanced. But Arnau Tenas would probably not be against leaving this winter to finally launch his career. It remains to be seen the position of Luis Enrique, who retained him last summer and has repeated since the start of the season that his three goalkeepers are able to play.

This season, however, the Spanish coach has not given his compatriot a chance despite the fact that Donnarumma and Safonov are not unanimous. In recent weeks, Arnau Tenas has also been announced in the sights of Girona and Sevilla FC. Could a six-month loan with or without a purchase option satisfy the parties? Under contract at PSG until 2026, Tenas is currently valued at 4 million euros on Transfermarkt.
