“Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the 22-year-old central defender, Tomás Araújo, – linked to the Club until 2028 – have agreed to renew his contract for another season. The new contract is valid until 2029,” announced Benfica Lisbon.
100 million release clause
This extension could cool the suitors, in particular the Parisian leaders, who are actively looking for a central defender, at least until next summer. A new offensive could indeed take place during the summer transfer window.
Araújo's release clause, set at 100 million euros, made his departure difficult, but this extension shows the Portuguese club's commitment to retaining their young talent.
