This is a new step forward. The burning issue of direct trains between Paris and Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines) which has crystallized the tensions between the elected representatives of Normandy and their Ile-de-France neighbors for two years has just (perhaps) experienced a new turning point. Since Monday, an additional Normandy TER stops at Mantes-la-Jolie. A decision which comes as the partial start-up of the RER E, initially announced in 2025, has been postponed to 2027.
The elected officials of the Normandy region had been very clear, they only wanted direct connections in 2025 between Vernon (Eure) and Paris, without stopping in Yvelin, since the RER E (or Eole) should logically reinforce the service. But has his delay reshuffled the cards? Removed from service since 2022, the TER departing from Rouen at 3:11 p.m., and bound for Paris Saint-Lazare, stops again, since Monday, at 4:12 p.m. at Mantes-la-Jolie station.
2.2 million euros per year for the operator
“The return to service of this TER is excellent news for travelers from the Paris region of Mantois, who will once again be able to benefit from an additional and direct solution for traveling to the Paris region, with a very attractive journey time of 34 to 45 minutes,” reacts the operator Île-de-France Mobilités.
According to the latter, this additional stop, “funded to the tune of 2.2 million euros/year by Île-de-France Mobilités, will be accompanied by the deployment, by the Normandy Region, of new Regio 2N trains on the line to more travel comfort.
The president of the regional council, Valérie Pécresse (LR), for her part indicated that she would “continue to defend the interests of Mantois”. “Stopping the TER makes it possible to improve service to this area,” adds the elected official through a press release. In 2027, the EOLE project, massively funded by the Île-de-France Region and Île-de-France Mobilités, will bring the RER E to Mantes and bring a real revolution to the region. »
