The slack is over for Arsenal. After three games without a win including two defeats, Mikel Arteta's men have raised their heads. After the easy victory against Nottingham Forest last weekend, the Gunners slapped Sporting CP in the Champions League. A very large 5-1 victory which must have reassured Arteta about the offensive efficiency of his team.
Still, the Spanish technician is not determined to recruit a scorer during the next transfer window. Tired of Gabriel Jesus' lack of efficiency, Mikel Arteta wants to be able to rely on a scorer capable of stacking up goals. A more than necessary condition to reach a new milestone and play leading roles in the Champions League, but also to win the Premier League.
It is therefore in this context that several avenues are currently being studied. While the names of Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP) and Mateo Retegui (Atalanta Bergamo) have recently been associated with Arsenal, the London club is also eyeing two players from RB Leipzig, namely Benjamin Sesko and especially Loïs Openda.
The profile of the former RC Lens striker would stick more to that of Gabriel Jesus whom Arsenal would like to replace. Although a little less effective this season, Loïs Openda nonetheless remains a formidable scorer. Author of 21 goals during his only season at RC Lens, the Belgian international confirmed last season by scoring 28 goals for 7 assists.
Aged only 24, Loïs Openda still has room for improvement, and may not be indifferent to a concrete approach from Arsenal. Under contract until 2028 at RB Leipzig, the Belgian has a release clause of 80 million euros that can be activated next July.
If the Gunners wish to secure the services of Openda from January, they will therefore have to be very convincing financially. Note that RC Lens could benefit from a possible transfer of “Tchoupi”, since a percentage of the added value was integrated during the deal with Leipzig.
