While Luis Enrique now opts for a rotation among the PSG goalkeepers, Matvey Safonov is entitled to a few regular appearances in the starting lineup. A largely questionable choice in the eyes of Daniel Riolo, who seriously questions the true level of the Russian goalkeeper recruited by PSG.

Arrived at PSG coming from Krasnodar during the last market summer for €20M, Matvey Safonov is relatively unknown to the general European public. The Russian international, recruited to assist Gianluigi Donnarumma in the hierarchy of goalkeepers, however, is beginning to be rotated with its Italian competitor. And Daniel Riolo condemns this type of action on the part of Luis Enriquerecalling that PSG had already made this mistake in the past.

Riolo not a fan of alternating goalkeepers

« PSG over the last 10 years has often done this thing, Trapp-Sirigu, Trapp-Areola, Buffon… The move with the two goalkeepers, we did it in this stupid game. I don't see how it brought anything and how it gives a goalkeeper confidence », indicated Riolo in theAfter Footon RMC Sportbefore letting loose on the subject of Safonov and its true level.

“Safonov, who knows him? »

« If someone tells me that Donnarumma is not a reinforced concrete guarantee, I completely agree, I am not blind. Donnarumma is perhaps not a guarantee, but who knows Safonov? Do we know how he is under pressure? Do we know what he is like in a big match? We have almost no references to him. So I don't see how it's smart to do this on Luis Enrique's part. But anyway I know that since he arrived, I'm too stupid to understand what he does », continues Riolo.
