Returning to the French team during the last rallies, Mattéo Guendouzi was not selected to compete in the Euro. Questioned by L'Equipe on this subject, the native of Poissy did not fail to be very classy, ensuring that he had no regrets: “No, because when you see the list, there are great players. We must respect the players who have been called up. They all did great things. It was up to me to do more” he declared before returning to his current very good form: “It's certain that I was lucky to have had playing time and to have good matches, to be decisive. I have never had so much playing time in my career with the France team. You have to know how to take your chance when the coach calls on you. In September, I was called up because (Aurélien) Tchouaméni was injured. I was good against Belgium (2-0, September 9) so I told myself I could come back. Now you have to prove yourself all the time in selection. You have to be consistent, it's the hardest and most important thing in a career. I am now I think, because I have matured. I feel like I'm at a good point in my career, I have to make the most of it.”
Guendouzi believes that he had to “do more”!
One thing is certain, the former OM midfielder never doubted: “Yes, I wasn't afraid of not coming back, because I am aware of my qualities. We all have a downturn in our career, it happens. The Blues have been a goal since the first time I tasted it, when I was at Arsenal. It's a goal to be there all the time, I'll never give up to come. Not making the Euro wasn't easy so now I want to show every minute. At least in my head I know I gave it my all if I function like that. I will never have regrets. I always aim for the next gathering, not the one that passed” he said before concluding on the upcoming meeting against Italy, a meeting that will get people talking: “Oh yes! In addition, I have an international in my team (Nicolo Rovella). The Italians really like their selection. There is a bit of revenge, we want to make up for the first match we lost at home (1-3, September 6). They locked me up when I came back from somewhere else.“
