FC Sochaux-Montbéliard is pleased to announce the signing of Elson Mendes' first professional contract. The versatile midfielder is now tied to the club until 2027.
Born in Lisbon, Elson Mendes began his training in France at the age of 7 at the Stade de Reims academy. After 9 years in the same club, he joined CS Sedan Ardennes in 2020 to continue his development.
In the summer of 2023, the midfielder joined the FCSM and alternated playing time between the U19 Nationals and the reserve team, while training regularly with the Sochaux first team. He made his debut with the pros during the 7th round of the Coupe de France, coming on in the 82nd minute against FC Geispolsheim, followed a week later by his first minutes in National against Dijon FCO.
During the 2024/2025 season, the midfielder takes over under the orders of Karim Mokeddem. After a few first appearances against Le Mans and Paris 13 Atletico, Elson Mendes started for the first time against Valenciennes FC, as right back. Endowed with a great capacity for adaptation, the young player is proving himself in this position, which has enabled him to sign his first professional contract this Thursday, November 14, with immediate effect, for a period of three years with the FCSM.
Julien Cordonnier: “The signing of Elson Mendes is excellent news for the FCSM project. Seeing a young player, arriving at the training center in the summer of 2023, join the professional team, demonstrate his potential at the high level, then choose to sign his first professional contract with us, confirms the continued strong attractiveness of our club.
We would also like to congratulate the educators of the training center as well as the professional staff for the work accomplished in the development of the player.”
