This Sunday against Leicester, Ruud van Nistelrooy managed his last match as interim coach of Manchester United. On this occasion, the Red Devils won with a clear and flawless score of 3-0 and delivered an overall very interesting performance. In total, the Dutchman will have officiated in four matches, for three victories (Leicester twice and PAOK) and one draw (Chelsea). A positive assessment, and which takes on even greater depth when put in parallel with that of Erik ten Hag this season.
Indeed, before being sacked, the 54-year-old technician led a total of 16 matches, for only four small victories. The arrival of van Nistelrooy will then have allowed the team to regain a positive balance, and to bring, even if it was over a short period, a little satisfaction to its supporters. This success, Cristiano Ronaldo had also predicted it, even before he was announced as interim coach.
In a video published on his YouTube channel on September 12, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner recommended that Erik ten Hag listen to van Nistelrooy, who was his deputy: “ I think Ruud can be a big help because he knows the club and the club needs to listen to the guys who were there. (…) You cannot rebuild a club without having the culture. I believe Ruud will help because he was already there, he knows the club and the fans. If the coach listens to him, I think it will allow the club to progress. »
