Very happy to have recovered the TV rights to Serie A, the L'Equipe channel will not broadcast a match unencrypted for the second day in a row. Technical constraints are at the origin.
It was what you call a nice move. After long weeks of negotiations, the L'Equipe channel had recovered the TV rights to Serie A, held for several seasons by beIN Sports.
The L'Equipe channel offered itself the possibility of broadcasting two matches each day, and opened the ball on October 29 with a nice Milan-Naples (1-2). The following arrangement had been announced: a free-to-air match on the L'Equipe channel, and another match on the (paid) L'Équipe live football platform, accessible to L'Equipe online subscribers.
No Serie A match in the clear this weekend on L'Equipe
Problem, this weekend, the two beautiful posters between Juventus and Torino on Saturday evening as well as between Inter Milan and Naples on Sunday evening will only be visible on the L'Équipe live football online platform, and not on the TNT channel. And that was already the case last weekend, for the 11th day. Why this choice, which deprives French viewers of what is the only major championship match visible in the clear?
As journalist Guillaume Maillard-Pacini explains, the problem is above all technical. Live programs from the L'Equipe channel are also accessible online simultaneously, giving Internet users around the world access to this Serie A match free of charge. While waiting to resolve this geolocation problem, L'Equipe must therefore broadcast these matches on its paid platform, where it can control access.
