Slight advantage to in the great history of the Derby

Olympique Lyonnais arrived at the highest level of French football in 1950, a dozen years after ASSE. It was created following discord between the football and rugby sections of LOU ( Olympique Universitaire), a club in which a football section had existed since 1899. It made a brief appearance in D1 in 1945-46. Today he is a pillar of the Top 14 rugby team.

The new football club, briefly named “Olympique de Lyon et du Rhône”, experienced some problems during its first season in D1, which it left immediately, only to return after having played in two D2 championships. The first Derbys did not take place in the atmosphere of rivalry that we would experience later. It is even said that Lyon had asked to play its first friendly matches against ASSE in order to test itself against an experienced team.

The performance record between the two clubs shows two distinct periods. Saint-Etienne domination from the 1960s to the 1980s. ASSE had not experienced defeat in nearly 80% of matches. It's been exactly the opposite since the early 1990s. The last Saint-Etienne victory dates back to 2019 thanks to Beric's famous goal at Geoffroy-Guichard.

All official competitions and all stadiums combined 124 derbies contested:

  • On Lyon soil, there have been no Saint-Etienne victories since the one obtained in 2014 by Christophe Galtier's men. Gradel and Erding had scored. (2-1)
  • The last visit in 2022 was punished by a narrow defeat (0-1) with a goal from Dembélé on a penalty. Covid requires only five thousand spectators had been admitted.
  • Five players from the current Stéphanois squad had set foot on the pitch: Aïmen Moueffek, Mickaël Nadé, El Hadji Dieye and Yvann Maçon, as well as Louis Mouton who, however, did not come into play. Pascal Dupraz was on the bench
  • On the Lyon side, only Lopes, Caqueret and Cherki are still there. Jordan Vere, a new player from Lyon, played two Derbys in the green jersey, one won and one lost.
