A twist about Mitchell Weiser

Mitchell Weiser, announced in Vladimir Petkovic's list for the November training course by the German and Algerian press, was ultimately not selected for this gathering of the Algerian national team.

This Thursday morning, during the press conference where the list of players called up was revealed, the absence of the right back of Werder Bremen surprised many observers.
However, after recently confirming his change of sporting nationality, Weiser was expected to make his debut with the Fennecs.

Questioned on this subject, Vladimir Petkovic explained this decision in terms which nevertheless suggest a possible future for Weiser in the selection: “He is a well-known player, whom I had the opportunity to follow in Germany. He has a lot of experience and qualities, but I preferred to make another choice. He is in the expanded list, the door is not closed to him. » This statement from Petkovic confirms that, although he has chosen other options for this internship, Weiser remains a serious option for the future of the Fennecs.

Mitchell Weiser, who followed all his training in Germany and played with the Mannschaft youth teams, from U16 to U21, is therefore not yet integrated into the immediate plans of the Algerian team. However, his career in the Bundesliga and his current performances with Werder Bremen make him a solid candidate to strengthen the Algerian squad. Considered one of the best right-backs in the German championship, Weiser is shining this season with a goal and four assists in just nine games.

The absence of Weiser from the Fennecs list for the CAN 2025 qualifying matches against Equatorial Guinea and Liberia disappointed some supporters. However, Petkovic seems to want to integrate the player in good conditions and at the right timeprobably preferring to evaluate other options for the moment. A prudent choice, which could allow Weiser to better integrate into the dynamics of the national team during future camps, where his versatility and his European experience would be valuable.
