At the start of the week, the news which should be fully focused on the highly anticipated Sunday derby is monopolized by the new complaint filed against DAZN and the LFP following a song described as homophobic during the meeting facing Strasbourg.
It is once again the “We are the Stéphanois” which is targeted by the associations and initially, by the Rouge Direct collective which takes on the role of whistleblower and then lets the associations act, such as Stop Homophobia which therefore filed a new complaint. In the wake of this publication by Rouge Direct, Gil Avérous, the Minister of Sports announced that he would exchange “in the next few days to move forward” with ASSE, describing it as unacceptable“ the words of the incriminated song.
Othman Nasrouthe Secretary of State to the Minister of the Interior went further, asking the LFP to account for the non-interruption of the meeting following the song. In the columns of Le Parisien, the LFP gave elements of an answer to this question and explains that this very brief song, sung only once, was not the subject of any report in the match report (editor's note: As was the case against Lens, as we mentioned recently. ASSE thus escaping financial sanctions from the disciplinary committee or even a partial closure of the stadium). This absence of mention in the match report means that the disciplinary committee cannot make decisions on the subject.
Concerning the end of the match, the League is hiding behind the protocol provided by FIFA which is deployed in three stages:
- An announcement is made in the stadium to demand an end to the discriminatory chants.
- A temporary stoppage of the meeting is decided.
- If the situation does not improve, the match will be definitively stopped.
This time again, ASSE should slip through the cracks, despite the ire of associations fighting against homophobia.
