This Saturday evening, the ASSE players took to the Strasbourg pitch. After two consecutive defeats, the main objective of the Greens was to get back on track against newly promoted Strasbourg!
For their return to competition after a period of international break, the Greens made another trip to Alsace. As before each meeting, Laurent Mortel presented himself at a press conference.
“Despite its current ranking, Strasbourg is an interesting team. It is a difficult formation to maneuver which plays with 5 defenders at the back and uses the flanks well. Their game plan is interesting. In their last match, Racing lost against Guingamp but it was a defeat conceded on a penalty whistled in added time.”
The composition of ASSE
First half
The Greens started the match with a solid defensive organization and created several chances without being able to materialize. From the first minutes, Cindy Caputo and Chloé Tapia liven up the left side, combining effectively to allow our side to cross, but a Strasbourg defender deflects the ball for a corner. A few moments later, Sarah Stratigakis found Cindy Caputo in the middle. The new player of the France team tries her luck from afar, but her shot goes a few centimeters from the crossbar.
Despite their efforts, the Stéphanoises were not rewarded during this first act. Five minutes before the break, the locals opened the scoring thanks to Kenza Chapelle. The two teams return to the locker room with a score of 1-0.
Second half
In the second half, the Greens knew they had to raise their level of play to avoid a third consecutive defeat. Several players tried their luck, but without succeeding in breaking through Strasbourg's well-organized defense. The Alsatians, aware of the importance of increasing the score to protect themselves, managed to score on the hour mark. Despite protests from the Stéphanoises, the referee validated the goal, signed Laurine Hannequin, bearing the score at 2-0. Success continues to be lacking for the Greens, who fail to find the net for the second day in a row. Laurent Mortel, however, tried everything, making changes between the 70th and 80th minutes.
After this third consecutive defeat, ASSE fell to eighth place in the ranking. Since their exploit against Paris FC on October 5, the Stéphanoises have not returned to victory. The next match is coming quickly: this Saturday at 5 p.m., they will host Fleury, currently fifth in the championship.
Despite a determined performance, the Greens struggled to realize their opportunities. With three wins and three defeats in six days, they will absolutely have to get points next week at home against Fleury to get things back on track.
