FC Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati has told a brilliant anecdote about Lamine Yamal's Ballon d'Or.
Bonmati capped off a superb season in Catalonia to become the second player to win the award twice in a row after teammate Alexia Putellas. Further glory for Bonmati extends FC Barcelona's dominance in the Women's Ballon d'Or, with the Blaugrana now winning the title for the fourth consecutive season.
In addition to Bonmati's success, it was also another big night for Lamine Yamal, as the 17-year-old won the Kopa trophy.
Lamine Yamal and its ritual
The Best U21 Player award has now gone to an FC Barcelona player for the third time in four years, following victories for Pedri and Gavi.
As part of the celebrations, the traveling Barcelonans flew to Spain, with Bonmati and Lamine Yamal reveling in their success.
Bonmati commented on speculation the teenager could be a future men's Ballon d'Or winner and she admitted he had made a special request regarding his trophy.
“He asked me if my name was on it and I said 'do you want to touch it?' » – but he said no, because it would bring bad luck, according to quotes from Relevo.
