AS Saint-Étienne is on the brink of collapse. The heavy defeat in Nice has exposed the weaknesses of a team lacking experience.
AS Saint-Étienne are far from having the start to the season they were hoping for for their return to Ligue 1. After five league games, the Stéphanois have suffered four defeats, with their only success being a victory against Lille (1-0).
The latest rout, a bitter 8-0 on the Nice pitch this Friday, triggered a real crisis. The Greens’ supporters expressed their discontent, notably by tagging the walls of the training center in Etrat. Bixente Lizarazu, for his part, was not gentle in his analysis and expressed concerns about ASSE’s upcoming season.
“I’m not going to reassure the fans. I think the team is quite inexperienced, they’re going to have to get moving in terms of recruitment to reverse the trend,” declared the consultant for Téléfoot this Sunday.
“And above all, taking an 8-0 like that… It hurts very, very, very badly mentally because there is an idea of rout, of letting go completely. It’s still very worrying,” judged the former Bayern Munich left-back.
