Shannon Sharpe’s ESPN absence not linked to IG Live sex tape

Shannon Sharpe is avoiding trouble after his viral Instagram Live sex tape on Wednesday.

TMZ reported that the sports media personality would not be disciplined by ESPN for the X-rated incident.

Sharpe wasn’t on the set for “First Take” Thursday, as Thursdays and Fridays are his regular days off, and he’s expected to return to the air on Monday, per the outlet.

The ex-NFL tight end accidentally shared audio of himself engaged in sexual activity with a woman with his roughly 3.2 million followers live on the social media platform.

Sharpe initially claimed his account was hacked, but backtracked a few hours later on an episode of “NightCap,” his YouTube show with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, admitting that it was him and a woman on the audio.

“Obviously I am embarrassed. Someone that is extremely, extremely private and to have one of your most intimate details – the audio – heard for the entire world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons,” Sharpe said.

“There are a lot of people that count on Shannon to be professional at all times and I always try to be professional at all times, even when I’m behind closed doors. … I’m very disappointed in myself, not for the act. I think there are millions and billions of people of consenting age that engage in activities, but for the audio to be heard I’m disappointed in myself. I let a lot of people down.”

Thousands of people tuned in for Sharpe’s unfortunate mishap, and hundreds of thousands more later listened to him as he cleared the air on his show.

Sharpe, a three-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro during a Hall of Fame NFL career with the Broncos and Ravens, joined the World Wide Leader in August 2023 after leaving FS1 following a falling out with Skip Bayless.
