Klopp’s alleged DFB clause: This is how Julian Nagelsmann reacts

The fact that Jürgen Klopp will join Red Bull as ‘Global Head of Soccer’ on January 1st has caused a stir in the football world. Since the 57-year-old signed a contract there until 2029, a commitment as national coach of the German national team was automatically off the table for many.

Sky However, reported that Klopp had an exit clause in his new contract that would allow him to move to the DFB. A little later they denied it Bild and kicker this message. The fact that Klopp will replace Julian Nagelsmann after the 2026 World Cup has now become a long way off.

But what does the incumbent national coach actually say about the speculation? At the press conference before the Nations League game in Bosnia-Herzegovina (Friday, 8:45 p.m.), Nagelsmann was asked about Klopp’s personnel. “I know Oliver Mintzlaff very well. I can’t imagine that the clause is there, but I’ll ask,” joked the 37-year-old, who worked as a coach at RB Leipzig from 2019 to 2021.

By the way: That Mintzlaff has now mentioned the clause to him dpa personally relegated to the realm of fables.

Nagelsmann took the question as an opportunity to congratulate his then managing director on the coup: “I congratulate Oliver Mintzlaff on an outstanding coup, I congratulate Jürgen Klopp on an outstanding, interesting job.” The coaching legend of Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool FC now has “a very interesting job that Jürgen will fill with a lot of life and with his outstanding style.” Nagelsmann spoke of “a win-win situation for both sides”.

Nagelsmann’s focus should now turn back to the two games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands (Monday, October 14th). If he continues to be so successful, the calls for Jürgen Klopp are likely to become quieter and quieter anyway.
