Local officials are concerned about wildfires due to the dry conditions across Nebraska and Iowa. In Nebraska, over a dozen counties are under a fire weather watch. Those include Dodge, Saunders, Butler, Colfax, Stanton and Madison counties. In Iowa, 34 counties are under burn bans. Those include Mills, Harrison, Shelby, Webster, Crawford and Carroll counties. Webster County Emergency Management is seeking farmers to assist fire crews during field fires. Officials said the fires often start in areas that are away from roads, making the areas difficult to access for crews in fire trucks. They ask that, if you have a tractor or plow, you message them on their Facebook page. A field fire did break out in Scribner, NE, on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Since the field was easy to access, the Scribner Volunteer Department and farmers nearby were able to quickly contain the flames.
