Alice Detollenaere talks about her “severely tested” relationship with Camille Lacourt during her cancer

A couple united against illness. For the launch of Pink October, the top model and godmother of the Ruban Rose association, Alice Detollenaere, recently returned to her breast cancer, which she revealed in 2020, and the way her companion, the swimmer Camille Lacourt, had accompanied her during this ordeal.

The young woman first confided to Gala that she had opened up without taboo to her partner about the fears she had felt after her diagnosis regarding the changes that the disease and the treatments would bring to her physique. “I had so many fears. The worst thing that could happen to me is that he doesn’t love me anymore,” she recalled. “When I told him about it, he laughed. He told me that even if I no longer had breasts or hair, he would still love me.”

“My pillar”

In addition to her love, Alice Detollenaere was also able to count on the athletic spirit of Camille Lacourt, with her experience in sports competitions. “He helped me a lot to put things into perspective. I think his champion mentality had a lot to do with it. He really supported me in the face of illness,” she said, adding that the couple was also experiencing financial difficulties at that time, in the face of which they also managed to stay together. “He was my pillar. We got past that and I said to myself that it was really the right one. »

Against all expectations, the real challenge arrived at the end of the treatments, when the parents of little Marius, born in 2021, tried to find a semblance of normal life. “At no point do we say to ourselves that it will be more difficult than the previous one. However, there is the disillusionment of not returning to one’s previous life and we don’t understand why. So, we feel guilty […] As he stayed with me because I was sick, I wondered if he would also stay with me as I got better,” she said. “So we went to see a therapist because we didn’t understand what was happening. »

Fortunately, the couple has continued to enjoy happy days for six years now. And if the illness may have put them to a “severe test”, for Alice Detollenaere, there is no doubt that it also proved to her that Camille Lacourt was indeed “the man of [sa] vie ».
