Marcelino’s advice: “If you are not a team, you don’t win”

Marcelino García Toral He dropped a message or advice in his evaluations after the victory over UD Las Palmas that could well reach his latest sporting victim.

“Football is a collective sport,” he said. “And if you have good individualities, the better.” The key was the “fluency we had. But we enjoyed it because the whole team had good judgment, we didn’t rush, we scored chances and scored goals. We even missed a penalty.”

“For me, a footballer helps to win, like Barry did with his goal. But if you’re not a team, you don’t win. And you have to be a team to defend and to attack. We were at all times, with more success and in others with less. But we were a team until the end.”

Before that conclusion he had acknowledged that in the first half UD Las Palmas was better because “they also played, their possession made us uncomfortable and we were not able to adjust the pressure.” He admitted that perhaps it was his fault or “maybe we could have been more intense.”

And then he commented that in the second half “we conceded a very avoidable goal. But the team that responded very well. The second half was ours. The rival did not create danger for us, only a shot from a great distance hit the crossbar but they did not have another scoring opportunity. But we, on the other hand, did have enough. The number of shots on goal and the probability of scoring was important. The result was fair.”
