Leverkusen (dts news agency) – In the evening match of the second matchday of the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig won 3-2 against Bayer Leverkusen, breaking the reigning champions’ winning streak of 35 games without defeat.

The Werkself started confidently in front of their home crowd and clearly dominated the opening phase, while Leipzig held out ambitiously and initially waited for counterattacks. After an unpunished foul on one of his players, RB coach Marco Rose lost his temper and was shown a yellow card. Rose continued to get upset and verbally attacked the referee, who then sent the coach to the stands with a yellow-red card.

In the 39th minute, Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong put his team in the lead. Shortly afterwards, teammate Álex Grimaldo increased the lead in the 45th minute. Due to numerous interruptions, there were seven minutes of stoppage time. Leipzig took advantage of this: Shortly before the final whistle, Kevin Kampl headed home the equalizer.

In the 57th minute, Loïs Openda equalized for the Saxons. What followed was an exciting exchange of blows with chances on both sides and intense duels. In the 80th minute, Openda put Leipzig in the lead for the first time with his second goal. The Saxons’ transition play in particular posed a threat time and again.

Next Friday, Dortmund will host Heidenheim, while Leverkusen will play in Hoffenheim on Saturday.
