As the legislative elections scheduled for November 17 approach, political parties in Senegal are multiplying alliances. After the agreement sealed between the Alliance for the Republic (APR) and the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), another major coalition is emerging on the political scene. This alliance, whose official name has yet to be revealed, brings together several influential players on the political scene.
Among the parties involved in this new coalition are Khalifa Sall’s Taxawu Senegal and the Unity and Rally Party (PUR) of Serigne Moustapha Sy, a former member of the Yewwi Askan Wi coalition. Other parties such as the Alliance for the Citizen Republic (ARC) led by Anta Babacar Ngom, a former presidential candidate, and Gueum Sa Bopp of Bougane Gueye Dany, who was unable to run in the last presidential election due to lack of sponsorship, have also joined forces. The Republican Party for Progress (PRP) of Déthié Fall, also a former ally of Yewwi Askan Wi, is part of this coalition, as are Les Serviteurs de Pape Djibril Fall, a candidate in the March 2024 presidential election, and Agir of Thierno Bocoum.
Although the leaders of this new alliance have not yet officially communicated on the formation of the group, several reliable sources confirm its existence. The officialization and announcement of the name of this coalition would only be a matter of time. If it materializes, it would mean that Khalifa Sall will not ally himself with either the Socialist Party (PS) of Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye, or with the APR of Macky Sall. This last point puts an end to the rumors circulating last weekend, suggesting that Khalifa Sall could form a coalition with one or the other of these parties.
