Lat Diop, who was planning to travel to France, was arrested this Wednesday morning at the Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass (AIBD), before being finally released and returning home.
The former Minister of Sports and former Director General of the Senegalese National Lottery (LONASE) was arrested at the AIBD as he was about to board an Air France flight. During the police check, he was arrested in possession of his ordinary passport. Questioned about the possible possession of a diplomatic passport, Lat Diop denied having one.
However, once taken to the administrative detention zone, he allegedly presented a diplomatic passport, issued when he was Minister of Sports. This passport was confiscated, as he no longer holds this position since Macky Sall left power.
And so the former minister, after his aborted trip, returned home without any notification.
Lat Diop’s arrest appears to be linked to complaints, according to RFM sources, who also indicate that investigations are underway into his management at the Ministry of Sports and at the general management of LONASE, where he previously held positions of responsibility.
