Griezmann’s beautiful gesture, who went alone to greet all the Parc supporters

Even if some of the performances of this French team sometimes plunge us into an ocean of perplexity, there are immutable things that comfort us, like the generosity of Antoine Griezmann.

A short-term replacement for Parisian Randal Kolo Muani, who was supposed to start in his place against Italy (1-3) at the Parc des Princes, the Atlético player, like his teammates, never seemed to be in the rhythm against Italy. And like the others, he was booed at the final whistle.

A disapproval that he quickly transformed into cheering as he set off alone on a lap of the stadium to applaud the supporters who had turned out in large numbers at the Parc des Princes, where most of his teammates had simply greeted the Irresistibles before returning to the locker rooms. A gesture that was greatly appreciated.

“We had difficulty with this tactical aspect”

The vice-captain of the Blues keeps his smile in all circumstances, even after such a severe defeat against Italy which could legitimately lead us to pessimism, especially since it comes at the end of a rather disappointing Euro. But he prefers to put things into perspective, and look ahead to the future without dwelling too much.

“That’s football, sometimes you lose, sometimes you win, you have to keep this desire to work, that’s the only good thing to keep going,” he smiled into the microphone of TF1, the match’s broadcaster. “They were better. I don’t think we were good in pressing or defensively. We have to work hard and review that tactically,” he had said earlier, before explaining what he thought the Blues were lacking.

“We had started well, with a lot of desire and good pressing. We were unable to sort things out tactically when their central defender came inside by playing 6. We struggled in this aspect and it caused us a lot of problems.”

The French team, not very exciting at the Euro, has missed out on a big return to school. And after this heavy defeat against an Italian team that was said to be struggling, a rebound against Belgium, Monday (8:45 p.m.), has become more than desirable, this Monday in Lyon, in order to avoid a slump setting in before the next international window, scheduled for October.
