New high-resolution images of the wreck of the Titanic have been released by the company that owns the rights to it, revealing that part of the ship’s bow railing, made famous by the characters Jack and Rose in the film Titanic, has sadly disappeared.

“A bittersweet mixture of preservation and loss.” That’s how RMS Titanic Inc., the Georgia-based company that holds the legal rights to the Titanic wreck, has described the ship’s current condition.

The Titanic lies at a depth of 3,800 meters

Resting since April 15, 1912 at a depth of 3,800 meters in the North Atlantic, the wreck was the subject of a mission – the first carried out by RMS Titanic Inc. since 2010 – consisting of “documenting the debris field as accurately as possible, understanding better what’s underneath, learning more about the state of decay and identifying what’s most at risk to help us tell the story of the Titanic a little better.”informed the agency Associated Press Tomasina Ray, director of the firm’s collections.

Good and bad news

Among the positive discoveries was the bronze statue “Diane de Versailles,” last seen in 1986 and missing since. The images show, however, that a large section of the railing surrounding the ship’s forecastle deck had fallen off. According to RMS Titanic Inc., the ship was still standing as of 2022.
