Today, September 4, the China-Africa Forum opens in Beijing. Since Monday, several African heads of state have arrived in the Chinese capital. Among them, Kenyan President William Ruto, who has already met with President Xi Jinping. Kenya, a key player in the development of China’s new Silk Road in Africa, has benefited from billions of dollars of Chinese investment in its infrastructure. However, these projects have slowed down in recent years due to the reduction in loans granted by Beijing.

It is one of the jewels of China’s new Silk Road in Africa. The Kenyan railway linking Mombasa, on the coast, to Nairobi. This project, which was to continue until Ugandais currently ending in a wheat field in the Rift Valley, 300 km from the border. The whole affair cost more than four and a half billion dollars and earned the Kenya the nickname of ” jewel of corruption ».

Like this railway, around fifteen road projects financed by the Chine are in arrears, mainly because of Kenya’s loan repayment problems, while the Chinese economy itself is slowing.
