(Pro D2): “It’s a trap match for us,” warns Columérin Aldric Lescure, former SA XV player

“I am a volunteer firefighter and I am going to take the competition in 2025 to turn pro.”

You competed, last Friday in , your 180e Pro D2 match. Did you imagine that when you arrived in Angoulême in the summer of 2014?

Aldric Lescure. Certainly not, given how I started in Angoulême. I can say that I didn’t expect to continue in Pro D2!

Indeed, nothing was easy! When you arrived at the SA XV, which was in Federal 1, you went through the reserve which was coached by Jean-Luc Boyer and Sam Vigeant. What memories do you keep of those moments?

It was a rather complicated start, I didn’t expect when I arrived from Mont-de-Marsan to go through the B. But hey, it perhaps did me good on the other hand, it was a questioning to start from scratch. And, in the end, it went well since I did two years of Fédérale 1 and four of Pro D2.

Have you kept contacts from these six years in Charente?

Not much anymore. I had Martin Wognitsch, Younes El Jaï. Afterwards I got along well with Didier (Brugier). But I looked at the team compositions, there was a change! He just has Vivien (Devisme) and Yassin (Boutemmani) who returned, and Ledua Mau and Sikeli Nabou with whom I also played.

You are starting your fifth season at in the company of Anthony Coletta, who left the SA XV at the same time as you. Did you find what you were looking for?

Yes, stability. We are fathers of families, we have our family lives here which go quite well. Afterwards, the group’s life in Angoulême was great and that’s a bit of what we found in Colomiers. So we’re still there. It’s a family club. And then I’m not much of a traveler, it suits me that way. I’m playing, so I’m happy and I’m taking on a bit of a new role because I’m the oldest member of the team. I try to bring my experience to young people.

That is to say, do you talk more than before in the locker room?

Maybe not. But I like explaining one-on-one with certain young people. Afterwards, I’m still not a big talker but I try to bring a little more to the team.

You have had a good start to the season with a fourth place after six days and a defensive bonus brought back from Oyonnax last weekend. Satisfied ?

Yes, it’s a good start because it was tricky with a lot of travel. On arrival, we will win in Mont-de-Marsan and , we take two defensive bonuses in Oyo and , so we manage to move around quite well. We also had trap matches at home and so far, things have gone well (Editor’s note. Victories over and /Romans).

But we still have a tough time on this second block since we played Oyo, then we go to Brive, and we receive in particular for the derby and Angoulême who are moving well. So it’s still a big block.

The SA XV indeed has the particularity of having won its first three away matches. Be careful, danger?

It’s even incredible. And then, even at home, they are not ridiculous. They received Brive and Aix, and Mont-de-Marsan which remained on three defeats, it was the trap match. But it’s going well, there’s a big win, it’s playing well behind. This is the trap match for us.

We are preparing for it. In addition, the weather forecast is not going to be great, we will have to focus on conquest and defense. Afterwards, the lawn is not synthetic, but you can play even in the rain, it’s not Aguilera or Dax!

At 34, are you already looking towards the post- world?

Yes, I am a volunteer firefighter and I will take the competition in 2025 to become a professional. Afterwards, I am not yet at the end of my career, I feel mentally and physically good so I am anticipating but that does not mean that I want to stop. I still want to play.

Firefighter, is it a childhood passion?

No, it came a little late. When I was at the training center in Mont-de-Marsan I already had this desire and with professional rugby, it was not necessarily possible. But as I am reaching the end of my career I had the opportunity to discover this profession. I work on guard duty at the Colomiers barracks. I am not yet trained in fire but I help the victim. I like helping people. It’s a job where you feel useful. Hoping to leave there at the end of my career.

And like that, if there is a fire in the Colomiers locker room…

That’s it! I’ll be there!

“We will have to tighten up on conquest and defense.”

Four former SA XV in the Colomiers pack

The footbridge between the SA XV and Colomiers has been operating for many years. There are in fact four Columérins players to have worn the Angoumoisin jersey. All four in the pack.
The third lines Aldric Lescure (2014-2020) and Anthony Coletta (2017-2020), the South African second line Jense Roux (2019-2023) and the pillar Elies El Ansari (2020-2023) arrived from last summer.
In the past, Sebastian Poet, Maxime Laforgue and Nicolas Martins had notably worn both jerseys. Without forgetting Julien Laïrle who started as a video analyst in Colomiers before joining Angoulême via Périgueux.
