RUGBY. The most coveted scrum half in Pro D2 will arrive at Racing 92

Courted for several months by Racing 92, Léo Carbonneau ended up giving in to the calls from the foot of the gang in Lancaster, and should indeed join the Top 14 next seasonaccording to L’Équipe sources.

The 20-year-old was the priority for the Ile-de- club after the announced departure of Nolann Le Garrec to for the next financial year. Thus, Santiago Arata (), who was also part of the discussions, is no longer an option.

For Carbonneau, this transfer will be a drastic change in his young career, he who has been in the ranks of CAB since 2013, after starting his training at Avenir Bizanos.

With Brive, the scrum half was propelled into the deep end very early, at just 18 years old, proof of great potential. Since his debut with the professional team, Carbonneau has only had one Top 14 season and played 43 matches with the Coujoux.

If the latter gave his agreement to join Farrell and company, it was following a long reflection, and Philippe’s son would have officially said yes this Monday evening, again according to information from L’Équipe. However, long negotiations are about to begin.

Indeed, number 9 is under contract until 2026 in Corrèze, which means that Racing 92 will have to buy out its last year of contract, but also pay training compensation in Brive.

Léo Carbonneau should cost the Ile-de-France residents a tidy sum, especially since he was a member of the French under-20 team, with a defeat in the final at the last world championship, against the English.

With the Bleuets, the scrum-half has been captain several times, and he has fulfilled the same function at the club since the start of the season, despite his young age and the presence of renowned internationals at his side.

For Racing 92, this transfer could be a great pick, with a talented young player and JIFF, who could blossom at the highest level. In the meantime, Carbonneau will finish his Pro D2 season, trying to bring CAB back into the elite.
