Mola rails against conditions in South Africa and calls for Champions Cup overhaul

Stade Toulousain had a hard time putting its game together. Despite obvious superiority throughout the match, Ugo Mola’s men lacked control during their victory against the Sharks (8-20). Unable to take the offensive bonus despite a large domination, the Rouge et Noir lost first place in the group to Union -Bègles and could complicate their path in the final phase. After the match, Ugo Mola regretted the climatic conditions in which the match took place, under intense heat: « I think that if the South Africans are to continue to exist in this competition, we really have to think about the pace of the calendar”

A rhythm that “distorts the competition” for Mola

For the coach, an overhaul of the Champions Cup is necessary: “The rhythm of the calendar is not necessarily appropriate… Or distorts the competition. But others experienced it last year. And there’s no reason why we shouldn’t experience it, so we have to adapt.” If they finish in second place in their group, which is likely, Stade Toulousain should move to the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
