The BO, from hooker Yohan Beheregaray, has never left the top 6 since the start of the season. If the road is still long, the Basque thinks that his people are on the right track.
What feeling prevails after the victory against Aurillac?
It was a bit mixed because the content was very poor. We will only remember the four points. We started well but we got out of control on the sidelines, everyone had their own thing. Behind, we failed to keep the ball and score, despite several chances. Inaccuracies in the game meant that Aurillac remained in contact.
Boris Bouhraoua said after the match that this type of match also allowed you to learn. What have you learned so far?
That discipline is extremely important, that it's complicated without conquest… Despite everything, we held back and then took the lead in the score. This consistency, over eighty minutes, means that we manage to get through it. It's important to win this kind of match.
You have been alternating victories and defeats for several weeks but you maintain your place in the top 6. What does this inspire you?
We have set ourselves high goals. We show up, before each match, with the desire to win. If we respect what we say, the place in the top 6 is, in fact, in the objectives. We are in the nails. We must continue.
There was an element of unknown at the start of the season. Since when did the top 6 become a goal?
Yes, there is an element of unknown, but we play to win every match. There have been a lot of changes, in the presidency, in the staff or among the players. With the recruits, we brought new blood, we did not have the weight of last year which was, apparently, complicated to live with. We arrived with the desire to win the matches and, inevitably, to play in the final phase.
So it's not taboo to say that the BO is aiming for the top 6?
No. Afterwards, we know that we are still rebuilding, that we have not arrived. There is still a long way to go, but we are on the right track.
Have expectations changed?
No, not particularly. At the end of the match, the fans said to us: “Well done, all the same.” This “all the same” shows that they remained hungry but we are the first to not have been satisfied with the victory. Content is also important.
In April, the BO was looking for a buyer. Today, the team still exists in Pro D2, you win and you even play the leading roles. Do you think about it sometimes?
If, at the start of the season, we had been told about such a start to the championship, we would have signed straight away. I experience it a little differently from those who were there last year, because I am coming to a new challenge with lots of desire and ambition. Everyone rocked.
With a view to the top 6, will you play an eight-point match against Dax on Friday?
We can see it like that. Dax is having a very good start to the championship, we are neck and neck in the standings. It's a direct competitor, the Landes neighbor, so it will be a very important match, which can put us in a slightly more comfortable position for the future.
