The fall tour of the XV of France will end on Friday evening with the last test match against Argentina at the Stade de France. Fabien Galthié's Blues want to complete this tour with a third success in three matches and the Blues coach intends to rely on the best possible group. However, the Top 14 clubs seem to have a dilemma in relation to the French coach. According to information from Rugbyrama, several Top 14 clubs are wondering about the future of their players likely to be reserves with the French XV for the match on Friday evening, in order to know if they are applying for a place in Top 14 Saturday or Sunday.
Top 14 clubs in the middle of a dilemma?
While five players will be declared reserves, the Top 14 clubs are waiting to know their identity in order to know if these elements will be able to apply for the championship this weekend, during the 10th day of the Top 14 season. Fabien Galthié is currently working with a group of 42 players and on Tuesday evening, he will “let” 14 players go in order to respect the FFR – LNR convention. 14 players who will therefore be able to play in the Top 14 this weekend. And on Wednesday at 11 a.m., Galthié will unveil his starting XV and the eight replacements. But there will then remain five so-called reserve players who could be on the match sheet until the very last moment in order to make up for a possible withdrawal. However, the Top 14 clubs would have liked to know more this Monday morning concerning the identity of the five reservists in order to consider whether or not they should be used in the championship this weekend.
In 2021, a similar situation took place with France – Scotland during the 6 Nations and the five reservists were Bougarit, Aldegheri, Woki, Couilloud and Carbonel. But only the latter had played with his club RC Toulon on Sunday evening in Lyon, while the other players had been left to rest by their respective clubs. Patrice Collazo, then manager of the RCT at the time, regretted his decision by confiding about Carbonel, who started on Sunday evening against LOU,: “I would have done better to leave him in Marcoussis, it would have been better for him“. We will therefore have to see what the Top 14 clubs will decide this time regarding the five reservists but they all seem to be in a dilemma at the moment because of Galthié.
