Matthieu Jalibert chose to leave the XV of France after learning that he would be a reservist. Philippe Saint-André condemned his decision.
Replacing last weekend during the first test match of the fall tour of the XV of France, Matthieu Jalibert returned home. Annoyed by this status during the great success of the Blues against Japan (52-12), the UBB opener who learned that he was a reservist in the spirit of Fabien Galthié therefore preferred to flee far from the the French team. A decision strongly condemned by a certain Philippe Saint-André.
This Saturday, the former coach of the Blues provided his comment on a departure that has been widely commented on since his announcement. “What is certain is that there is a divorce between (Matthieu) Jalibert and Fabien Galthié. On the other hand, Jalibert made a mistake in asking to return to Bordeaux. When you are a coach, you make choices, the player must be resilient, the player must not give up, whereas here he asked. »
Very bleak international future
While Fabien Galthié would have in reality left the choice to his player on whether to leave or not, “PSA” insisted even more on the fact that Jalibert did not make the right decision. “He gave him the choice to test him. And there he must stay. […] For me, Jalibert showed that he was having a very, very bad time and that he didn't feel like being a reserve for a match against the All Blacks. And there, Fabien Galthié said: 'I want guys who don't give up', and so he addresses him indirectly. »
For Philippe Saint-André, Matthieu Jalibert was therefore completely wrong, even if he said that he “understands the frustration”. The RMC consultant concluded his verdict: “He should never have returned to Bordeaux. »
The rest of the international career of the Bordeaux fly-half now seems very dark.
