How much time has passed, how much progress has been made for Joris Segonds, the child of Decazeville (Aveyron). The former Stade Français player was handed over, Monday, November 11, from the hands of Mayor François Marty and the sports deputy, Ramiro Rocca, the medal of the city where he comes from.
A fair reward for the 27-year-old flyhalf, who fell into the oval pot from a very young age.
A rich career at the highest level
Born in Decazeville in 1997, Joris Segonds took his first steps on the pitch within Rugby Bassin Ouest Aveyron rugby school (RBOA), then at the Decazevillois Sporting Club where he spent 10 years.
In 2013, at the age of 15, he took charge of Cantal. He played for three seasons with the Stade Aurillacois professional team from 2016 to 2019.
In June 2019, the Aveyronnais commits to Stade Français. At the end of the 2022-2023 season, he establishes himself as one of the elite triggermen, finishing 2nd best director in the Top 14 with 240 points scoredahead of only a small point by Finn Russell, the Scottish reference in the field.
In 2021, the Decazeville player was called up with the XV of France as part of the summer tour to Australia, then for that in Argentina in 2024. This season, he landed on the Basque coast with Aviron Bayonnais.
The pride of an entire community
During the presentation of the City medal, the mayor of Decazeville François Marty underlined the honor and immense pride for the town to see local talent shine at this level.
“It’s really a source of pride, and it shows to what extent Decazeville can be a breeding ground for champions. We are all behind him, and we can't wait to see him continue to reach heights and carry high the colors of our beautiful city,” said the town's chief magistrate.
