Transfers/Top 14. Finn Russell (Bath) courted by five clubs including Racing and Stade français

Finn Russell only arrived in Bath a year ago, but now five clubs, including Racing 92 and Stade Français, are already interested in securing the services of the Scottish fly-half.

Could we see Finn Russell again in the French championship? In any case it is a possibility mentioned by the Rugbypass site this Wednesday. The Scottish international (32 years old, 81 caps), on contract until June 2026, is already considered by several clubs wishing to recruit him. It must be said that the flyhalf has not lost his enthusiasm in England and continues to shine in the selection. He also converted the five penalties that opened up to him against South Africa (15-32 defeat).

Racing 92 would be ready to welcome back the Scottish star. But his return would be conditional on the departure or not of the Englishman Owen Farrell, whose contract will expire at the same time. Finn Russell was even seen at Murrayfield this Sunday chatting with Racing 92 president Laurent Travers.

Arrival under what conditions?

Not to be outdone, rivals Stade Français are also in the mix, as are Saracens and Urayasu D-Rocks, a franchise coached by his ex-teammate Greig Laidlaw. Finally, Bristol Bears owner, billionaire Steve Lansdown, made Russell a priority to pair him with Tom Jordan. The Scottish scrum-half, currently playing in Glasgow, is also expected in Bristol.

But this scenario has some difficulties. First of all, there's his contract. His salary being estimated at 1.2 million pounds per year (or 1.4 million euros), it is difficult in these conditions to imagine a team being able and willing to buy out part of his contract.

On the other hand, he is 32 years old and will therefore be 34 when his contract ends in June 2026. At what level will he be playing at that time? Will he then be able to commit to a club for at least one year? Again, these are unknowns.
