Expected as planned in November, the 24-year-old New Zealand second/third row has validated his medical examination and signed a one and a half year lease with the USAP.
He is the eleventh recruit announced since the end of last USAP season. It was almost established behind the scenes that the New Zealand second/third row, Max Hicks (24 years old, 1.99 m, 115 kg), would be a blood and gold player. We also had to wait for him to finish his season with the Highlanders and Tasman Mako, and for him to complete his medical examination.
Since Tuesday, November 12, it is now done. The player in 21 Super Rugby matches over the last three seasons is therefore officially a USAP player. This recruitment responds to the desire of Franck Azéma and his staff to have a player capable of playing in the second and third line positions, strong in touch and with great potential.
After his good last season in New Zealand, which notably saw him injure his ankle at the end of last August, Max Hicks was selected with the Māori All Blacks where he played two test matches against Japan. A strong recruit to strengthen the USAP pack thanks to his versatility. Good news given the long-term injuries of Jacobus van Tonder (knee) and Posolo Tuilagi (tibia fibula).
Note that the player joined as an additional player, but signed a contract until June 30, 2026.
