He is one of the rare Jaunards to have already challenged Vannes. Last June, Régis Montagne experienced the immense pain of losing the accession final to RCV. A scar still open while the right pillar had dropped a ball in the Breton in-goal and had been heckled in a closed scrum. Three months after this indescribable frustration, the imposing Clermontois (1.86 m; 133 kg) has lost none of his legendary calm, without forgetting this bitter-tasting finale. “I lost a final against Vannes with my favorite club. Of course this match will be in the back of my mind, I absolutely want to play this match. But this context must not take over the performance “Vannes is not an easy team to play against. They are well equipped for the Top 14 and they have already caused a lot of problems for teams in the championship.” explains Montagne, who adapts week after week to the demands of the Elite and the Clermont system.
A use of impact player… before more?
Because Régis Montagne has not yet started a meeting in the yellow and blue colors. For his first season in the Elite, the former Isère player faces tough competition from Cristian Ojovan and Michael Alaalatoa. This Saturday, the young French right-hander should once again come off the bench to make his impact in the last quarter of an hour. At twenty-four, the right-hander is learning alongside the Moldovan and the Samoan. “Everything is going faster. The game is much faster, you have to look for the intervals more. I feel very good at Clermont, even if it was hard to leave Grenoble, a club where I knew everyone. Today , there is healthy competition with Michael (Alaalatoa) and Cristian (Ojovan), we all have different profiles and we manage to exchange.”
Right-handed as massive as he is toned, Régis Montagne has already knocked on the door of the XV of France. Summoned to Argentina, the former Grenoblois was able to train with the rooster jersey and gain experience.
