Mother of teen who killed 4 at Georgia high school breaks silence

A mother’s regrets. Marcee, the mother of Colt Gray, the teenager who killed four people in a shooting at a high school on September 4, spoke to American media outlet ABC News. She was “in tears” and “overwhelmed with emotion,” according to the American channel.

“If I could take their place, I would. I would do it in a heartbeat,” Marcee Gray said Sunday, September 8.

The mother tried to raise the alarm before her son killed two students and two teachers in Georgia. According to the Washington Post, Marcee Gray called the school to warn them of an “extreme emergency,” but was unsuccessful.

The mother confirmed this to the Associated Press, using screenshots of text messages and calls between the family members. The local sheriff has not confirmed this information, however.

Marcee’s sister Annie Brown said the teenager had expressed “suicidal and homicidal thoughts” before carrying out the act.

Father also charged

The 14-year-old shooter has been charged with four counts of voluntary manslaughter. Additional charges will be pursued, prosecutors told local media.

The teen’s father, Colin Gray, is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of child cruelty. He is accused of “knowingly allowing his son, Colt, to possess a firearm,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Director Chris Hosey said.

The father and son made their first court appearance on Friday. Neither entered a plea. They are due back in court on December 4.
