Mark the date of October 28th in your diary. In Paris, in the majestic setting of the Théâtre du Châtelet, the 2024 Ballon d’Or will be awarded. The list of nominees was revealed this Wednesday, with only two French players: William Saliba (Arsenal) and Kylian Mbappé (PSG then Real Madrid).
English champion, winner of the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup with Manchester City, then key player in Spain’s triumph at the Euro this summer, Rodri is logically one of the favourites. The same goes for Jude Bellingham, who has won everyone’s approval in his first season at Real. The English international has filled his trophy cabinet (La Liga, Champions League) and has also provided Madrid fans with some memorable moments.
Other credible candidates include Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City). Lionel Messi, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023, was not included in this list of 30 nominees. Cristiano Ronaldo is not included either. Neither are Mohamed Salah, Robert Lewandowski or Rodrygo.
