Three people who were injured in a Russian strike on the central Ukrainian city of Poltava last week have died of their injuries, bringing the death toll to 58, regional authorities said.

“Unfortunately, three more people injured in the Russian attack on Poltava on September 3 died in hospital. The death toll now stands at 58,” Poltava region governor Filip Pronin said in a message on Telegram.

Russia said the attack on Poltava, one of the deadliest in recent months, targeted a Ukrainian military “training center” and that the strike had “destroyed” its “targets.”

The Ukrainian authorities did not specify the distribution of military and civilian casualties. More than 300 people were also injured.

The Russian strike sparked widespread condemnation among kyiv’s allies, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated calls for the West to provide more air defense systems to his country.
