Senate inquiry committee continues hearings

The Senate inquiry committee on the intervention of investment funds in French football has announced that it will resume its work this week. It also indicated that Michel Savin will visit the LFP offices after the elections for the presidency of the League.

“The Senate inquiry committee on the intervention of investment funds in French professional football is resuming its work this week,” the mission said in a statement on Wednesday. It has only a few weeks left to conduct hearings since its work, launched on April 4, is scheduled to last six months, until October 4.

In particular, it will hear “representatives of supporters regarding the scheduling of Ligue 2 matches”. Since its resumption, the championship has been disrupted by incidents, on and off the pitch, in protest at the cancellation of the majority of matches at the weekend.

A report expected in a few weeks

Also on the agenda: the hearing of “presidents of clubs concerned by the issue of multi-ownership” and “representatives of consulting firms that supported the Professional Football League during the procedure of opening up the capital of its commercial company.” The representatives of the investment fund CVC Capital Partners, with whom the Professional Football League signed a lifetime agreement, will be heard again.

Furthermore, “the rapporteur Michel Savin will use his powers of control on documents and on site as part of a visit to the premises of the LFP scheduled after the election of the president of the League”, planned for September 10 and which has already turned into a real soap opera.

Chaired by Laurent Lafon, senator for Val-de-Marne and chairman of the culture, education, communication and sport committee, the fact-finding mission was created after the partial sale of capital to the CVC investment fund. The aim is to take a real look, particularly at the economic level, at this issue. A report is expected at the end of its six months of work.
