Infrabel has carried out the necessary repairs, traffic resumes

Traffic has been able to resume since Tuesday 4:00 p.m. on railway line 94, linking the cities of Tournai and Hal, says a spokesperson for Infrabel, the railway infrastructure manager. Trains have not been able to run since shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning after a TGV hit the trailer of a tractor immobilized on a level crossing in Béclers (Tournai). This interruption has caused major disruptions while due to work on the high-speed line linking France to Brussels, TGVs and Eurostars linking London and Brussels/Amsterdam must use line 94. In total, “four TGVs and four Eurostars have been cancelled. Three Eurostars have been diverted via Mons,” says the Infrabel spokesperson.

Traffic has been able to resume in both directions since 4 p.m., including international trains to/from Lille and London, the spokesperson emphasizes.

Infrabel has carried out the necessary repairs, some of which are temporary. The teams will intervene again during the night to avoid a longer interruption of rail traffic.

The damaged train was evacuated to Leuze-en-Hainaut.

The 120 passengers on the crashed train had already been evacuated on Tuesday morning.

The accident left two people injured.
