Man arrested after two business burglaries

The Valais cantonal police’s engagement center was informed on the night of August 22 of the burglary of a restaurant and a gas station in Brig-Glis. The alerted intervention forces set up a major search operation in order to arrest the fugitive perpetrators.

The Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (FODF) and a dog handler from the cantonal police also intervened. Then, early in the morning, upon seeing a cantonal police service vehicle, an individual fled. The patrol then set off in pursuit and arrested him. In a shoulder bag that he was carrying, the police discovered the loot from the previous thefts. The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation in collaboration with the Valais cantonal police. The alleged perpetrator, an 18-year-old Moroccan national, was placed in pre-trial detention.

On the night of 20 August 2024, unknown persons committed 11 robberies, some of them similar to those above, in Upper Valais and Central Valais. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether there is a link between the various burglaries.
