Wendie Renard extends until 2027

OL announced on Monday the extension of its captain Wendie Renard until 2027. The defender (34 years old) has been at the club since 2006 and has been part of all of Lyon’s titles since.

Wendie Renard continues her adventure with OL. The Rhone club announced on Monday the extension until 2027 of its most emblematic player (34 years old). Arriving in 2006, she made her debut at the age of 16 and has experienced all of Lyon’s titles, from the first in the first division in 2007 to the last in May.

A one-season extension

Wendie Renard has played 477 games with OL, scoring 151 goals. She has accumulated 17 titles in the first division, while also winning the Champions League eight times. The defender has worn the armband since 2013 and was already tied to OL until 2026 before this one-season extension.

“I am very happy to extend my contract with my favorite club,” commented Wendie Renard in a press release.

“I arrived here at 16 from Martinique and I’m 34 today, so obviously, Lyon has become like home to me. I still have the will and the ambition to continue winning titles with OL Féminin, my teammates and the staff.”

“Since the beginning of her career, she has been exemplary”

This season, Wendie Renard will play under the orders of Australian coach Joe Montemurro. For OL, the start of the season in the championship will take place on September 21, with a trip to Fleury. “Wendie has grown and developed with OL Féminin by participating in all of the club’s successes”, noted Vincent Ponsot, OL’s general manager. “Since the beginning of her career, she has been exemplary on the field but also off it. We are delighted to continue the adventure together. It was essential for us that Wendie stays by our side in the years to come.”

This summer, Wendie Renard participated in the Olympic Games with the French team but the Bleues were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Brazil. The only downside to her incredible career is that Renard did not win a major title with the national team or an Olympic medal.
