In an exchange with journalists on board Air Force One this Saturday, Donald Trump revealed his intention to request Jordan and Egypt to welcome the Palestinians fleeing the fights in Gaza. The American president revealed that he had already approached this proposal with King Abdallah II of Jordan, and provides for a similar discussion with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi on Sunday. “I would like him to welcome people. I would like Egypt to welcome people,” said Trump, quoted by the Associated Press. “We are probably talking about a million and a half people, and we clean it up and say, 'It's over'.”
The American president welcomed Jordan's current efforts in the reception of the Gazaouis, reporting his conversation with King Abdallah: “I would like you to take more, because I look at the whole Gaza Strip at the moment, and C 'is a disaster.
Trump said that this relocation could be “temporary or permanent”, while recognizing the historical context of conflicts in the region. “Something should be done,” he insisted. “It is literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything is demolished, and people are dying there.”
This proposal comes after information from NBC News last week, evoking a Trump project to temporarily move residents from Gaza to Indonesia to facilitate reconstruction. The Indonesian authorities, however, categorically rejected this idea, declaring that “any attempt to uproot or deport the residents of Gaza is completely unacceptable.”
-“I would prefer to involve certain Arab nations and build housing in a different place, where they could perhaps live in peace for once,” added the American president, highlighting his vision of a long-term solution for the region.
