The friendship and family tensions of Guéér and Teug

In season 2, episode 14 of the series “Bété Bété”, broadcast and mentioned by our colleagues at Kawtef, the intertwined stories of the Guéér and Teug families continue. At the heart of the story, the unwavering friendship between Alkali Sall and Makhoudia Tall, two men of different castes, comes up against old traditions and prejudices.

Traditional conceptions around caste prevent certain romantic unions, such as the past romance between Alkali and Daba Thiam. From this complex idyll is born Diouma, whose paternity Alkali does not recognize. This situation is a source of resentment for Ndiaga Thiam, Daba’s conservative father, who harbors deep anger towards Alkali.

Marème Sall, Alkali’s wife, clings firmly to the purity of her lineage and refuses any contact with the Gnégnos, another illustration of the social tensions between different families. Meanwhile, Makhoudia Tall must navigate the complexities of a polygamous household involving two wives, belonging to the Teug and Guéweul castes respectively.
