The Birkilane health district, in the Kaffrine region (center), recorded one death among the two cases of Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever confirmed in this department, APS learned from the regional health director, Doctor Mbaye Thiam.
“The Birkilane health district has reported two cases of Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever. One of the two cases died, the other has a favorable outcome,” he revealed during a telephone interview.
According to the regional health director of Kaffrine, 51 identified contact cases are currently being monitored by the competent services. He invited the population to maintain their calm and to go to hospitals at the first symptoms for early treatment.
-Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever is a disease transmitted from animals to humans via ticks, the Ministry of Health recalled, after the appearance of the first case at the end of April 2023.
The virus is hosted by wild and domestic animals. Its transmission to humans occurs through “direct contact with blood or tissues of infected animals”.
