Saudi Arabia has called for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria since the days of the former al-Assad regime, which was ousted from power last month.
On Tuesday, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan participated in a panel discussion titled “Diplomacy Amidst Disorders,” during which he discussed several regional developments, including the Syria, we learn from the official Saudi press agency.
The head of Saudi diplomacy said that, during talks with the new Syrian administration, Riyadh could see that it was keen to cooperate with regional partners and the international community.
Faisal bin Farhan stressed the importance of lifting sanctions against Syria to enable broader assistance to the Syrian people, emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian and relief efforts aimed at alleviating human suffering in Syria.
The Saudi Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of the role of the international community in efforts to foster progress and support the Syrian people in their quest for a better future.
-The new Syrian Foreign Minister, Assad Hassan Shaybani, has already made two official visits to the kingdom since his appointment in December 2024.
Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s ruler for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on December 8, ending his family’s decades-long rule .
The new administration, led by Ahmed al-Charaa, has also called for sanctions to be lifted to recover from nearly 14 years of civil war.
